Metadata before the edit

Your footage, ready to work.

Ingesta reads the metadata already inside your footage and turns it into searchable fields, keywords and Smart Bins for Resolve or Final Cut.

The workflow

From media folder to edit-ready.

Ingesta does the organizing before your editing software opens, without changing the original media.

ON DEVICE

01 · READ

Drop in a folder. Ingesta reads every clip.

Camera, lens, color, movement, location and time surface automatically.

02 · EXPORT

03 · EDIT

Open Resolve. The structure is already there.

Searchable fields, keywords and Smart Bins arrive with the clips, ready to use.

Beyond standard metadata

Information you can actually use.

Ingesta translates raw camera readings into a practical vocabulary for finding the right shot.

Movement

Turn focal length and focus readings into useful descriptions of how a shot was framed.

These fields can be written into the exported metadata and inserted into Resolve or Final Cut Pro with the tags Ingesta establishes for each clip.

SceneOne value per place. Resolve groups these under Smart Bins › Scene once 'Smart bins for scene metadata' is on in Preferences › User › Editing. Clips with no location are left blank rather than filed under something else.ShotOne value per shooting day, so place and day become two axes at once. Resolve groups these under Smart Bins › Shot once 'Smart bins for shot metadata' is on in Preferences › User › Editing. Note it is the Shot half of the Shot / Take slate: on a production that slates its takes, choose whether you want it.KeywordsTags come from a fixed list, so the words in your project stay predictable from the start. You can read the whole list here before you scan. Resolve groups them under Smart Bins › Keywords once 'Smart bins for keywords' is on in Preferences › User › Editing.File NameFile Name is written from the clip's recorded metadata into the editor-ready export.Clip DirectoryClip Directory is written from the clip's recorded metadata into the editor-ready export.Date RecordedWhen the camera recorded the clip, not when the file was modified.Shoot DayCalendar day, useful for multi-day shoots.LocationLocation is written from the clip's recorded metadata into the editor-ready export.Location Source`measured` when the clip carried its own fix, `propagated` when it inherited one from a clip shot near it in time. A body with no receiver — an Insta360 Luna Ultra, most action cameras — can still be placed this way, and the coordinate is a good one; it is simply not that clip's own reading, and a Location column with nothing beside it reads as though it were.Camera TypeThe camera body exactly as recorded in metadata, never guessed from the file name.Camera ManufacturerCamera Manufacturer is written from the clip's recorded metadata into the editor-ready export.Camera Serial #Identifies individual bodies when the same model appears more than once.ISOISO is written from the clip's recorded metadata into the editor-ready export.Camera ApertureCamera Aperture is written from the clip's recorded metadata into the editor-ready export.Shutter SpeedShutter Speed is written from the clip's recorded metadata into the editor-ready export.Shutter AngleShutter Angle is written from the clip's recorded metadata into the editor-ready export.Lens TypeThe lens by name, as the body reported it. An empty cell usually means manual glass: a lens with no electronic contacts has nothing to announce.Focal Point (mm)Focal Point (mm) is written from the clip's recorded metadata into the editor-ready export.DistanceLens focus distance, where the camera records it. Not every body reports one.White Point (Kelvin)White Point (Kelvin) is written from the clip's recorded metadata into the editor-ready export.ND FilterThe ND wheel position the camera recorded. Empty means the body states none, which is most of them.Camera FPSCamera FPS is written from the clip's recorded metadata into the editor-ready export.Monitoring LUTThe cube the camera was showing on the monitor, which is not the one Ingesta applied to its own frames. Read from Sony acquisition metadata or from the RED clip header, on bodies that record it.Camera NotesA compact summary of camera, lens and acquisition metadata.Gamma NotesThe image gamma, such as S-Log3, C-Log3 or Rec.709. Read from camera metadata rather than inferred from the file name.Color Space NotesColor Space Notes is written from the clip's recorded metadata into the editor-ready export.LUT UsedThe LUT applied to the frames Ingesta analyzes. Resolve cannot infer it later.Bit DepthRead from the bitstream rather than the container.Codec BitrateCodec Bitrate is written from the clip's recorded metadata into the editor-ready export.Video CodecVideo Codec is written from the clip's recorded metadata into the editor-ready export.ResolutionDisplay-corrected, so vertically shot footage reads as vertical.Keywords/DualGainWhether the sensor's high-gain readout was in use, which is what sets the clip's noise floor.Keywords/ISWhether stabilization actually moved the sensor, measured from the sensor position track rather than taken from a menu flag.Sensor Area CapturedHow much of the sensor the shot used, in millimeters, with the crop where it can be measured. Millimeters compare across makes; a mode name does not.Camera Notes/RSHow long the sensor takes to read one frame, the source of skew on fast pans. Measured from the clip for its exact camera and sensor mode, and shown as a share of frame time so values compare across frame rates.Camera Notes/MLUTThe monitoring LUT used on set, written inside the Camera Notes summary. The column of the same name is a separate tick. Sony and RED bodies record it.Camera Notes/RAWSensor-reported black, 18% gray and 90% white reference levels. These are reference points, not clipping levels.MoveStatic, Pan, Tilt or Pan + Tilt, measured from gyro telemetry. No telemetry means blank, never a guess.Keywords/rigTripod, gimbal, handheld, drone or shaky, based on camera identity and gyro telemetry. Unknown stays blank.Keywords/handlingShaky or whip. Describes how the shot came out, separately from the rig.Shot TypeEight sizes, from extreme close-up to extreme wide. When the camera records focus distance, Ingesta measures framing from focal length and focus distance. It measures frame scale, not subject type: half a meter of frame is a close-up whether it contains a face or a rock. If focus distance is unavailable and the description model is enabled, Ingesta estimates only wide, medium or close-up. For focus pulls, the value is the framing at the start of the clip.Day / NightCalculated from the sun's position at the clip's place and date, not guessed from the image.
